Otis Redding: Otis Blue/Otis Redding Sings Soul
Otis Redding: Otis Blue/Otis Redding Sings Soul
Label: Volt Records
Year: 1965
Otis could sing in front of any band and Booker T. & The M.G.’s could play behind any singer. On Otis Blue/Otis Redding Sings Soul they rise to a level together that neither could achieve with anyone else. Otis absolutely commands Aretha Franklins’ signature tune, when he sings “Change Gonna Come” the ear believes him, “Down In The Valley” is the sound of Memphis and with “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long” Otis goes higher than seems possible. Booker T. & The M.G.’s make the ass twerk and the heart sing going up tempo on “Shake”, down tempo on “My Girl” and Otis casually elevates “Satisfaction”. Otis elevated everything.
