In 1980 Bauhaus were on to a whole other type of post punk in regard to song structure and instrumental performance with the vocals finding their way. What will become a theme throughout the album, “Dark Entries” is very of its time, there is a case to be made that “Double Dare” is not a song as much as it’s an exercise of contemplating the creation of a song and the vocals clearly find their way on “Nerves”. It’s obvious why In The Flat Field had to be self produced as no outside producer would have been able to comprehend what sound the band were trying to attain as Bauhaus cooked up something that had never been cooked before.
