Janet Jackson: Control
Janet Jackson: Control
Label: A&M
Year: 1986
Control is a story about control. The title cut is a remix in duration, “Nasty” comes out of the bullpen firing heat matched with attitude, “What Have You Done For Me Lately” is a five minute reminder that Janet was on Different Strokes before “You Can Be Mine” goes another five minutes plus. Side 2 starts out with yet another five minute track and for the first time without Terry Lewis & Jimmy Jam producing. Danger Ahead! However, Janet weathers that storm and Terry & Jimmy return for “When I Think Of You” to churn out a Janet classic in less than four minutes. From there it’s unmemorable at best but you can be sure 19 year old and recently annulled Janet Jackson would gain control in the future.
