Kind Of Blue never disappoints while forever adding something new, no matter how many times you’ve spun, streamed or lasered it its freshness date doesn’t expire. Credit that to the six musicians featured, who are all listening intently to each other and reacting in the most profound of ways. If a person has but one jazz album in their collection, Kind Of Blue is that album, and if they know only one jazz musician Miles Davis is the musician. Justifiably so.

Just read James Kaplan's book 3 Shades of Blue and he does a really job of explaining the process of how Miles orchestrated this session. Dealing with his favorite drummer Philly Jo and Coltrane still addicted to heroin and trying to establish himself as a musician after his own heroin addiction and fall from grace. Really good reading if you get the chance.
