Steve Vai: Passion and Warfare
Steve Vai: Passion and Warfare
Label: Relativity Records
Year: 1990
What sets Steve Vai apart from other stunt guitarists is that he doesn’t take himself too seriously as even his over the top ridiculous solos are from a place of humility. Passion and Warfare begins with “Liberty”, and which will become a theme, could have easily been the closing track. “Erotic Nightmares” shows not every composition was solely a vehicle to shred, “Answers” should have been a single and “The Riddle” is ripe for guitar transcription. “For the Love of God” is transcendental meditation music for the spiritual shredder who lives on love, light and 7 strings, followed by “The Audience Is Listening” as Steve goes from serious to silly in under 12 minutes and “Love Secrets” is a dream soundtrack both equally serious and silly as the modern day guitar shredder (with a sense of humor) refuses to die.
