Wipers: Over the Edge
Wipers: Over the Edge
Label: Brain Eater
Year: 1983
Over the Edge sounds like it was recorded live to tape by a guy on the wrong side of 30 who hadn’t forgotten what it felt like to be on the wrong side of 20. Tons of bands write a tune like “Romeo” but very few bands write it as well and even less write it better. “Now Is the Time” has a relentless attack with the guitar tone leading the way and “No One Wants an Alien” is surf rock from an inland band. The last third of Over The Edge is less guitar heavy but with a higher degree of difficulty, vocally Greg Sage goes raw throated without going hoarse and Wipers impact is measured by all the bands started by people who heard their albums and told the press about it 10 years later.
